2023
Louisiana
Late in April 2023, we were very fortunate to have crossed paths with a couple of heroes, saints, angels – oh so many names for the kind humans who walk among us.
Our sweet Litter "L" pups were piled up in a small box in a car in a shopping market parking lot on a very hot Saturday. There was a man in the car who had been trying to get passersby to take one or more of the pups, desperate enough to offer them for free.
By the time that our hero came on scene, it was late afternoon and the man was losing his patience as no one was taking any of the pups, and he was threatening to throw them into the dumpster. Our hero couldn’t bear to leave without some belief that the pups would be ok and would not end up dying in the trash or at the hands of the wrong type of person.
She eventually managed to get the man to agree to give her all of the pups, and even tried, valiantly, to get the man to surrender Mom, but he refused. When she was safely on her way home with the pups, she reached out to one of our Doglando volunteers.
Our pups were dehydrated and listless when our volunteer received them at her home. She worked through the night to revive them by getting them to drink, and eventually eat. As she worked tirelessly to care for these 5 pups, she reached out to Doglando Foundation to see if we would be willing to take them into the Puppy Breath program. Our founder (and the next hero in this story), Teena Patel, agreed to take on these beautiful babies.
We’ve had these puppies for 3 weeks now and they are healthy, energetic, and thriving at Doglando!
Each day, the pups spend time with the expert trainers at Doglando, learning how to interact with humans and with their littermates. They have already accomplished the basic tasks of dogdom... things like name recall, walk-alongs, leash training, bathing, grooming, and even swimming.
In the early mornings, late evenings, and all weekend-long our pups are cared for by tireless and generous volunteers, enabling them to learn how to interact with both humans (adults and children) and dogs.
Our volunteers shower these pups with love, holding them in their laps, playing with them, allowing them to play with one another, and training them, all to build a bond of trust with humans.
Below, you can meet each of our Louisiana pups, who are ready for their forever-home!
